Accompanist Job Description
Primary Responsibilities
The Church Accompanist is willing to fulfill the mission of Baltimore United Methodist Church by providing organ and piano accompaniment for scheduled worship services and other activities in support of the music ministry of the church. Having a pivotal role in the musical life of the church, this individual is a strong team player, working under the direction of the Lead Pastor and Director of Music.
Job Description
This year-round position is part time. Expectation of attendance is for Sunday worship services, rehearsals with the choir and other special services, including (but not limited to) Christmas and Easter. The work is done cooperatively with the Director of Music. The accompanist will be compensated per session.
Job Requirements
1. A disciple of Jesus Christ, committed to growing in faith.
2. Experience in church worship and familiarity with The United Methodist Hymnal is preferred.
3. Flexibility to play in blended style worship services (incorporating both traditional and modern music).
4. Knowledge of the instruments and oversight for care of church musical equipment.
5. Knowledge of basic music theory and ability to perform simple transpositions or reharmonizations.
6. Ability to sight read music as well as chord charts and lead sheets.
7. Willingness to rehearse sufficiently to maintain a high quality of music.
8. Sensibility in communication by using logic and reason to guide interactions with a variety of people.
9. Ability to take direction and work as a team member.
10. Ability to communicate effectively and in a friendly manner with the church leadership, church choir,
and members of the congregation.
Accountability
The Accompanist is accountable to the Senior Pastor and the S/PPRC (Staff/Pastor Parrish Relations Committee). This individual will need to notify the Pastor, Musical Director, and S/PPRC a minimum of three weeks prior to planned absences (preferably as soon as known) to allow for planning of absence.
Responsibilities
1. Support the church’s worship environment through the well-prepared execution of music presented
by the choir.
2. Serve as accompanist for the Sanctuary Choir in regular and special rehearsals and performances as
assigned.
3. Plan, select, and prepare preludes, postludes, and offertories, according to the needs of the worship
services. This will be planned in conjunction with the Pastor and Music Director.
4. Play for weddings and funerals, as requested (and upon availability), being permitted to receive
additional compensation from the parties involved.
5. Maintain an accurate account of organ and piano needs for maintenance by notifying the Music Director.
6. Assist the Music Director in finding a substitute for Sundays when not available.
Salary
Negotiable, consistent with candidate’s education, experience, and skill level.

Music Director Job Description
Job Description & Purpose:
To develop and lead the worship music ministry for our church, in consultation with the senior pastor and other team members, in a way that is consistent with Baltimore’s mission, values, and theology. To lead people of all ages in the congregation and choir in music so that they:
• May grow in understanding the Christian faith through music and music’s role in the faith.
• Will develop and strengthen their relationship with God.
• Will become better equipped for daily living as faithful Christian disciples.
Responsibilities:
• Select, Plan, and Lead music, preludes, postludes, hymns, anthems, and offertories for Sunday Worship, both choir and congregation.
• Lead choir and special ensembles with rehearsals.
• Participate with the planning of Sunday and Special services such as but not limited to Christmas and Easter with the Senior Pastor, accompanist, and worship team.
• Recruit, equip, motivate, supervise, and shepherd choir and musicians
• Maintain a strong prayer base for the music ministry.
• Communicates faithfully with the Senior Pastor, staff, accompanist, and SPPRC
• Participate in the life and ministry of the church.
